My Photography Journey From Building Clientele to Gaining a Photography Family
The statement, "Time flies when you're having fun" is the best way for me to sum up this past year. This hobby-turned-career has never once felt like a dreaded J-O-B to me. Even when I am completely swamped with sessions and editing, I enjoy every little bit of being a photographer and what that involves. I have been so consumed with my family and my work that I was completely blown away when I realized this month is one year since Michelle Rose Photography became official. Looking back to last April is so surreal to me. Though I had done numerous photo-shoots before this, it would be the first time I was advertising it as a "professional service" and guaranteeing a high quality product. I love what I do and I was putting it all out there, allowing others to judge what I put my heart and soul into. Terrified doesn't begin to describe it. My hope was that my first year in business would bring me a few sessions per month and I would slowly build clientele. Boy, was I surprised. I never would have imagined the amount of people so willing to give a newbie a chance. They let me into their lives, photograph their loved ones and let me be witness to their most precious moments. I had families ask me to photograph them to showcase their love for one another, I had brides and grooms ask me to photograph their first kiss as a wedded couple and I had new mothers ask me to photograph them, no makeup and still in their hospital gown, with their child not even 12 hours old. Putting my heart out there for others had allowed them to become comfortable with me and I was able to document some truly beautiful things.
When beginning this adventure I knew I loved to "take pictures." What I didn't know was how many amazing people I would really get to know. After a year of meeting new people I realize my work is so much more than just taking pictures. It is an experience. It is a stranger letting me document the moments and people most dear to them. I'm not just "building clientele," I am constantly adding new members to my photography family.
I wanted to look back on this past year and give thanks to those who have helped me get to where I am today. So not only will my first "Featured Session" will be some of my favorite moments from my first year as Michelle Rose Photography, but I will also have a drawing for a MYSTERY PRIZE GIVEAWAY and ONLY my photography family can enter!
